TRS gears up for mother of all rallies, Pragathi Nivedana

first_imgHyderabad is awash with flags, festoons and balloons, all pink, stamped with smiling images of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) founder and state Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and a car, the party’s poll symbol. This is in the run up to what his son and the state’s Municipal Administration, Industries and Information Technology minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) has billed as the ‘mother of all rallies’ being held in the city’s eastern suburbs on Sunday, September 2, afternoon.Christened by KCR as Pragathi Nivedana, the rally to which tens of thousands of party supporters from all 31 districts of the state are being brought, is intended to enable the party supremo explain to the people what the TRS has provided in governance during the past four and half years listing specific promises made and what has been achieved so far. He will hold out hope describing what the party it plans to do on the journey to develop the country’s youngest state in the context of KCR’s goal to transform it as Bangaru (Golden) Telangana. The party is pulling out all stops to make the mega meet a resounding success. Farmers from Khammam, south east of Hyderabad, led by the TRS MP P. Srinivas Reddy rode into the city on tractors a day ahead on Saturday to beat the anticipated vehicular traffic expected to choke the arterial roads, off the Jawaharlal Nehru Outer Ring Road, near the meeting venue. For ensuring smooth flow authorities have laid 16 roads near the meeting site at Kongara Kalan. The TRS is bracing for a massive show of strength. “We have 46 lakh registered members and even if half of them turn up the meeting will be a great success,” said KTR. About 50,000 chairs were being placed and the remaining area was being covered by carpeting. The party is also hiring 7,300 of the 12,000 Telangana State Road Transport Corporation buses for the day to ferry supporters sporting pink coloured stoles emblazoned in black with the images of KCR and the party poll symbol. The Pragathi Nivedana is being held amid anticipation that KCR wants to call for early assembly elections instead of holding it like in the past at the same time as the Lok Sabha polls due in April – May 2019. KTR claimed that the TRS will get a 50 per cent vote share in the impending elections, going it alone and contesting for all 119 seats. “TRS is ready for elections. But the Congress is asking us why early polls and why the TRS is not waiting until April – May when it is scheduled. Usually, the ruling party wants to stay longer in office than the five year tenure with the Opposition trying to dislodge it. Here in Telangana the reverse is happening,” said KTR.Significantly, adding dramatic flourish, ahead of the rally, the Chief Minister has called for a cabinet meeting at his office — cum — residence Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad hours before the Pragati Nivedana begins on Sunday. He is to get the cabinet endorse decisions that can be announced at the rally. Also KCR is to reach the rally site by a helicopter – a makeshift helipad was being readied behind the venue. The TRS is looking at going for polls in December along with that for Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan by delinking the assembly poll which would have otherwise been held along with the Lok Sabha election in the normal course at the end of the five year tenure next year.advertisementREAD: TRS goes all out to organise mother of all rallies in TelanganaWATCH: TRS leader in Telangana unfurls party flag instead of Tricolourlast_img
