LETTERKENNY AC WEEKLY NOTES: FEB 1

first_imgITS all systems go this weekend as the Intermediate, Masters and Juvenile ‘B’ Cross Country Championship’s take place in  ALSAA Centre in Dublin. The club is hoping to field a number of strong teams and chasing medals. It was a weekend few will forget in athletics circles around Letterkenny as Mark English smashed the Junior Men’s 800m Irish record at the Celtic Indoor Schools International, at Cardiff on Sunday. And right on his heels in Cardiff was his fellow Letterkenny AC clubmate, Darren McBrearty, just a fraction of a second behind him in second place. English, a Leaving Certificate student at St. Eunan’s College, won the race in a time of 1.48.63 and in the process set and new Irish Junior record. The win means that English has now made the qualifying time for next July’s European Junior championships and no longer has to worry about making the qualifying times. And in what was a great day for Letterkenny AC, English’s club colleagues Darren McBrearty and Ruairi Finnegan also produced good runs in Cardiff and have also made the qualifying times for their respectivechampionships. The club would like to thank all those involved in helping out with organising the pantomime last week. This was a very successful fundraising event for the club. Further details will be released soon by the Treasurer, Eunan Kelly.Congratulations to Pat Flaherty, who won the club lotto jackpot of €1,200 last Saturday night in The Glencar Inn.There will be a 10 mile road race in Craughwell, Galway on March 20th. It is organised by Patrick Cosgrove, a brother of our own Paul Cosgrove and he is hoping to bring a team down from Letterkenny for the event. Anybody interested can give him a bell on 086-2652711 or email me on paul.a.cosgrove@gsk.com. Team prizes are decided by mixed team results so it makes it an interesting challenge.LETTERKENNY AC WEEKLY NOTES: FEB 1 was last modified: February 1st, 2011 by gregShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
