(Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)The Miami Hurricanes already added one prominent quarterback under Manny Diaz. Now, the new head coach of The U has added his first high school QB commitment, in Houston native Peyton Matocha. The ‘Canes added Ohio State transfer Tate Martell 10 days ago.Martell was a highly-touted former four-star recruit. He is attempting to gain immediate eligibility, citing Urban Meyer’s unexpected retirement. Now, Matocha will be joining him in the quarterback room.Matocha’s recruitment hadn’t been super exciting during his senior year, but seemed to be heating up late as teams look to add to their classes ahead of the February 6 National Signing Day. He is a three-star player, ranked No. 38 among dual-threat players in the class. He took a visit to Texas A&M last week, and did committed while at Miami this weekend, after new ‘Canes offensive coordinator Dan Enos visited him during the week.Peyton Matocha announced his Miami football commitment earlier this evening.Via Twitter:Extremely excited to announce that I am COMMITTED to the University of Miami!! #TheU? #TNM pic.twitter.com/XTRocRGRZz— Peyton Matocha (@peyton_matocha) January 27, 2019As a senior at St. Thomas High School, Matocha threw for 3,697 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He is also a threat with his legs, running for 787 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year.Matocha and Martell join a quarterback room that was pretty fraught this season.Malik Rosier was the only scholarship player at the position who didn’t serve a suspension at some point during the year, but his play was extremely up-and-down.N’Kosi Perry started a large chunk of the season, but was also inconsistent, and found himself in hot water over social media posts. Jarren Williams and Cade Weldon were also suspended at times for separate incidents, and Williams considered a transfer for a bit, but will be back.Solving the quarterback situation has to be one of the first things that Diaz and Enos have on their plates as the ‘Canes try and rebound from a very disappointing season under Mark Richt, who abruptly stepped away from the program after the season.last_img read more

Diplomatic community concerned over MR returning

The United States, United Kingdom and EU member countries are concerned the human rights situation in Sri Lanka will return to its dark days if Rajapaksa is allowed to return to power.Rajapaksa’s return to power could also see Sri Lanka once again lose the EU GSP plus trade concession in the event a Rajapaksa-led administration refuses to comply with the EU conventions related to human rights which the unity-Government followed in order to regain GSP plus. (Colombo Gazette) The concerns arise from steps taken by President Maithripala Sirisena to have talks with the joint opposition to form a United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Government. There are fears that if a UPFA Government is formed it will set the path for the return of Rajapaksa to power. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by Rajapaksa, which won the Local Government (LG) elections last week, has already called for early Parliament elections. The SLPP has said it will support the President to bring the required amendments in Parliament to the 19th Amendment to allow the holding of early Parliament elections. The diplomatic community is concerned over the possibility of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa returning to power in the near future.Western diplomats are believed to have raised their concerns with the Government and among the diplomatic community. read more
