I have been listening to many pro-baseball and college football games on the radio and TV, and I have my favorite announcers. I bet you have favorites, too. Here is what I like to hear from these announcers.Play-by-play requires a clear voice and a smooth flow in your delivery. You need to tell the score often and stay on task. Because it is radio, you need to draw a picture of what is happening on the field or on the floor.Color commentators need knowledge of the game, and it helps to have played the sport you are broadcasting. You need the lingo that goes with the sport. Your job is to add to the play-by-play, but don’t pile on too many statistics. Most people don’t like someone who gets too clinical. To be a good radio pair of announcers you need to give each other space to do their job. In other words, don’t step on the other person’s territory.
